Sunshine Opportunity Center

Sunshine Opportunity Centre (SOC) is a Community-Based Organization (CBO) duly registered and up-to-date compliant with the Ministry of social service in Kenya. Since its inception in 2016, SOC continues to provide the necessary antidote to the challenges People Living with Disability (PLWD) face within the grassroots of several Civic wards of Kilifi North and Kilifi South Constituencies in Kilifi County of Kenya.

SOC is dedicated to achieving equality, inclusion, and empowerment of children and young people living with disabilities in Kilifi County by mainstreaming this group into all aspects of daily life. This initiative provides an inspiring environment for people with different types of disabilities and people without disabilities to coexist and harmoniously live together. However, implementation of SOC interventions requires laws, funding, requisite personnel, and strategic plans.

The center intends to provide vocational skills training and outplacement for people living with disabilities (PLWDs). The initial focus will be on those living in the Mnarani Ward, this notwithstanding, we are hopeful to accommodate more from the surrounding wards as the center expands. SOC lies on a 1.25-acre piece of land located directly behind the office of the chief in Mnarani Village of Kilifi County. Among other facilities/activities going on is; A borehole dug from donations collected from well-wishers, and the erection of a perimeter wall around the compound to secure it and bar away any invaders. The center is envisioned to have 5-6 dedicated training areas (see suggested center plan), a classroom/lecture space, two offices, accessible toilets, and dormitory space. Its construction is around a central courtyard that can offer gardening services. This is a modular design suggestion divided into phases. Its Implementation is therefore streamlined automatically in phases whereby while the demand increment is pegged to the availability of recourses and vice versa. Each section is approximately 256 square feet.
